Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell Participates at GW’s Space Policy Institute Symposium
On June 2, Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell, spoke on a panel at The George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute that talked about aligning policies and budgets in the space industry. The panel consisted of current and former senior officials from NASA, the Department of Defense, the Department of State, the White House and Congressional staff. They discussed the links and disconnects between U.S. national space policy, government space programs and the President’s budget.

Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell Participates on 2009 Challenges for Space Policy Panel
On March 5, Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell gave a presentation on the coordination of U.S. intelligence, civil and commercial space activities. By aligning these activities, the U.S. can focus government investments in innovative capabilities (for science, safety and security) while helping the commercial sector mature in areas where capabilities are more pedestrian. The Enterprise Council of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Strategic and International Studies hosted the roundtable discussion.

Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell Participates on Open Source Intelligence Panel
On July 24, Kevin O’Connell sat on an open source intelligence panel at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. The panel included a number of current and former U.S. government officials experienced in both the benefits and the challenges of open source intelligence. Sponsored by Jay Carafano, senior fellow and assistant director of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies, the panel was chaired by Ronald Marks, senior vice president for government, Oxford Analytica and included Elliot Jardines, former ADDNI for Open Source; David Low, former national intelligence officer for Transnational Issues; Bruce Sherman, director, strategic planning, U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors; Frank Ciluffo, director of The George Washington University’s Homeland Security Policy Institute and Tim Sample, former staff director of the House Intelligence Committee.

Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell Speaks at Summer Seminar on Teaching Intelligence in America’s Universities
On July 22, Kevin O’Connell joined Dr. Delores Greene to present a national security case study on how intelligence analysts perform their jobs to academic leaders from colleges and universities that are part of the U.S. Intelligence Community’s Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE). The annual event was sponsored by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s Centers for Academic Excellence (CAE) and held at the University of Maryland. The program also included presentations by senior intelligence officials addressing the community's requirements for new analysts and the best methods to educate and train them.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence established the Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence program in response to the nation's increasing need for intelligence community (IC) professionals who are educated and trained with the unique knowledge, skills and capabilities to carry out America's national security objectives. The program provides colleges and universities with the opportunity to implement curricula focused on the critical IC skill sets needed to strengthen and build the IC workforce.
IAT Gives to Manuel Candamo Memorial Scholarship Fund
IAT gave a donation to the Manuel Candamo Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Manuel Candamo. Managed by the nonprofit Hispanic College Fund, the scholarship provides financial support to Puerto Rico-born college and college bound students that are interested in giving back to their community.
“Manuel was a close friend and colleague for over 25 years,” said Chief Executive Kevin O’Connell. “And his passion for the role of information and intelligence in security matters will benefit the military intelligence community for many years to come.”
Next year, in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, IAT will award one internship in analytics and security to a Puerto Rican college student.
Chief Executive Kevin O'Connell Addresses Capitol Hill Staffers on Open Source Intelligence
On June 6, Kevin O’Connell spoke about open source intelligence issues at a seminar hosted by Congressional Research Services. The event was attended by a number of senior staffers from intelligence armed services and homeland security and appropriations committees.
